Taiwan Semiconductor, one of the largest semiconductor manufacturers, offers a wide range of Zener diodes. The TME catalogue includes products from the BZX55 line, which are worth special attention. These are small diodes with a power dissipation of up to 500mW and a wide selection of voltages, offered in the DO-35 case for through hole mounting (THT).
Zener diodes work in reverse bias ("plus" on the cathode); their key parameter is the breakdown voltage, determined with high tolerance ( ±5%). When this voltage threshold is reached- the diode begins to conduct current, limiting further voltage increase. Zener diodes are manufactured with a great variety of Zener voltages – starting from 2.7V. As a result, they are used in voltage regulators, power supplies, converters, and voltage limiting devices.
